To take a copy of your database you should be logged onto the server as a user with full Administrator rights and follow this procedure carefully. If you need help with this process please contact your Ostendo consultant.

  1. Ensure that all users of Ostendo are logged off under File>Active Connections.
  2. Log onto the server as a user with appropriate permissions.
  3. Open the Windows Services screen from the Control Panel>Administrative Tools.
  4. Stop the PRTG Probe Service if it is installed.
  5. Stop the Ostendo API Services, Ostendo Queue Services and Ostendo Web Services if they are installed.
  6. Ensure there are no Firebird ODBC connections active.
  7. Stop Firebird Services or Firebird Guardian Services.
  8. Copy your database and paste it to the desired location, or create a zipped file.
  9. Start Firebird Guardian Services or Firebird Services.
  10. Start Ostendo API Services, Ostendo Queue Services and Ostendo Web Services (as applicable).
  11. Start the PRTG Probe Service if it is installed.
  12. Start any Firebird ODBC connections required.
  13. Check that you can open Ostendo.

Important Note

If you are copying a database for prototyping or testing purposes for Freeway or any other API link, it is essential that you do the following;

  1. Delete the API Security record under File>API Service.
  2. Stop the API Services for the Prototype/Test database.
  3. For Freeway, load a Freeway licence key for testing that is different to the licence key used in the live database.
  4. Add a new API Security record.
  5. Restart the API Services for the Prototype/Test database.
  6. Freeway devices will need to be reconnected with a new Fast Code to the Solution for Prototyping/Testing.
  7. Other API links will use the new API Key generated.

If you do not do this then there will be a conflict of connections for Freeway devices between the live database and the Prototype/Test database you have just copied.
